GED® Branding Guidelines

GED®, GED Testing Service®, and GED Ready™ are all trademarks owned by the American Council on Education (ACE). GED Testing Service® requires all third parties using or referencing the term “GED” (the “GED Trademark”) to comply with these guidelines.

  • When referring to the GED®, whether in general or more specifically to the tests you must always include the ® symbol.
  • Do not use the GED® Trademark adjacent to the term “online” or in a manner to falsely suggest that the GED® test may be taken online or a GED® test credential may be obtained online.

Correct: “online preparation for the GED® test”

Incorrect: “get your GED online”.

  • Only authorised GED® Pearson VUE Testing Centres and/or Authorised Education Partners have approval to make use of the GED® logo.
  • Once a student has passed all four of his/her GED® tests, he/she will be issued a GED® Credential. It must NOT be referred to as a Certificate or Diploma.
  • Under no circumstances can the word ‘Matric’ be used when referencing the GED® in South Africa.

Please note:

  • All content must be sent to GED Africa for approval prior printing/publishing of any kind. This includes all websites and social media platforms, as well as printed materials
  • Any and all domain names must be approved for suitability before purchasing.
  • All domains whereby you reference the GED® must be provided to GED Africa for brand monitoring purposes.
  • Please send all approval requests to info@ged.org.za

South Africa (SAQA)

SAQA issues a Certificate of Evaluation.

When referencing the SAQA certificate, you may only use one of the options below:

Option 1: The South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) has evaluated the GED® and found the National Senior Certificate as its closest comparable qualification.

Option 2: SAQA have evaluated the GED® and found the National Senior Certificate as its closest comparable qualification.

Should you refer to the GED® as anything besides the GED® in the South African context, you may only use one of the below options, always including the asterisk:

Option 1: GED® Grade 12 equivalent*

* SAQA has evaluated the GED® and found the National Senior Certificate as its closest comparable qualification.

Option 2: GED® Grade 12 equivalency*

* SAQA has evaluated the GED® and found the National Senior Certificate as its closest comparable qualification.

Option 3: Grade 12 equivalent*

* SAQA has evaluated the GED® and found the National Senior Certificate as its closest comparable qualification.

Option 4: Grade 12 equivalency*

* SAQA has evaluated the GED® and found the National Senior Certificate as its closest comparable qualification.


Namibia (NQA)

The NQA issues a Certificate of Evaluation.

When referencing the NQA certificate, you may only use one of the options below:

Option 1: The Namibian Qualifications Authority (NQA) has evaluated the GED® and found it to be comparable to a Certificate at NQF Level 4 (four) of the National Qualifications Framework for Namibia.

Option 2: The NQA has evaluated the GED® and found it to be comparable to a Certificate at NQF Level 4 (four) of the National Qualifications Framework for Namibia.

Should you refer to the GED® as anything besides the GED® in the South African context, you may only use one of the below options, always including the asterisk:

Option 1: GED® Grade 12 equivalent*

* The NQA has evaluated the GED® and found to be comparable to a Certificate at NQF Level 4 (four) of the National Qualifications Framework for Namibia.

Option 2: GED® Grade 12 equivalency*

* The NQA has evaluated the GED® and found to be comparable to a Certificate at NQF Level 4 (four) of the National Qualifications Framework for Namibia.
