The GED® in South Africa

The GED® in South Africa

On completion of the GED® in South Africa, graduates can apply to the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) for a Certificate of Evaluation. The purpose of the SAQA evaluation is to determine the level of the National Qualifications Framework at which a particular foreign qualification, such as the GED, should be recognised. While SAQA evaluates each application on an individual application basis, they have evaluated the GED and found the National Senior Certificate (NQF Level 4) as its closest comparable qualification. This Certificate of Evaluation is NOT the same as Foreign Conditional Exemption from USAf, this is no longer available for South African GED Graduates.

There are many further study options available for South African GED graduates, both locally and internationally.

Internationally, the GED® program is the only higher secondary certificate available in over 85 countries and is accepted by nearly all universities in the U.S. and many across the world. The University of the People, an online accredited American university accepts the GED as admission to most of their qualifications, including degree studies.

Locally, private tertiary institutions, such as Boston City Campus, Stadio, and AIE accept the GED as admission to most of their qualifications, including degree studies.
